Maths Concepts

Dear Parents,

The boys were taught these few concepts today:
  1. Multiplication tables can also be converted into addition. For boys who are unable to memorise the multiplication tables, they can actually "cheat" by changing it to addition. For example, the two times table: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ... These numbers are formed with the addition of 2 to the previous number. The same applies to the other multiplication tables (3 times table you add 3, 4 times table u add 4, and so on). So, if you have problem multiplying, you can change it to addition to make things easier for you.
  2. 10 times table: There is always a zero behind the answers (10, 20, 30, 40, ...). So you don't even need to memorise. Just add zero to the number that you are multiplying it with.
  3. ATM page 25: We learnt that when we decrease the number of groups, the number of counters in each group will increase (and vice versa). Make use of the example of sharing. When there is only me, I get to have all 8 candies. When there are two of us, I must share and now I only get 4 candies. The more people I share with, the lesser candies I get to have. This illustrates the point: when we increase the number of groups, the number of counters in each group will decrease.
